Water. Because your skin really, really needs it!

Olive oil. Olive oil contains at least four different antioxidants, which can help neutralize damaging free radicals that can lead to skin aging and skin cancer. Olive oil is purported to have regenerative and restructuring virtues and has great skin moisturizing properties - it has been the skin oil of choice for millenia!

Beeswax, even after removed from the beehive, remains a biologically active product retaining anti-bacterial properties. It also contains vitamin A, which is essential for human cell development. Throughout time, people have used it as an antiseptic and for healing wounds.

Vegetable glycerin. This comes from coconut oil, which is super-chock-full of glycerin, just like human cells are. Glycerin is a humectant (meaning it draws moisture from the air), and helps keep the skin's natural barrier intact. Glycerin can also be manufactured from animal by-products (ew) so rest assured that I only use vegetable glycerin.

Aloe vera promotes skin healing, and has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. Aloe vera also contains a rich source of amino acids, vitamins A, C, F, B, niacin and traces of Vitamin B12.

Lavender essential oil. The fragrance of lavender, while so appealing to humans, is not well liked by mosquitoes and gnats, so in the warmer weather, lavender is a natural insect repellent. It also is used to refresh the mind, lessen headaches and even makes sunburn feel better!

Borax is a naturally occurring mineral. It is used to partly saponify the oils in the cream, and as a preservative. About a half a teaspoon of borax goes into a batch that makes 12 jars.
